Skeet Shooting
There are three types of competitive shotgun shooting: trap shooting, sporting clays and finally skeet shooting. It was invented and used during World War II to teach the soldiers how to shoot at flying targets by teaching them how to skeet shoot. Also skeet shooting game replaced the hunting like activity of shooting live birds usually pigeons. That is the reason why the clay discs are called clay pigeons. The term ‘shooting skeet’ is used for shooting all sorts of clay targets which is not correct. Hence, how to shoot skeet would only refer to shooting clay pigeons or clay discs and not just any clay target.
How to skeet shoot has a very simple answer to it. In this game usually skeet shooting shotguns are used by shooters. The shooter can shoot from eight skeet shooting stations. These skeet shoot stations are the positions that the shooter can use to shoot at the clay discs that are thrown in the air. The clay discs are thrown in the air by two traps. Traps are devices that are placed at varying heights and shoot clay discs in the air to be shot by the shooter. The traps are placed in two different houses referred to as high house and low house depending on their heights. In the first skeet shooting round twenty five clay discs are thrown in the air by the traps to be shot from skeet shooting stations. Skeet shooting shotguns that are used by shooters are rated so as to mark which shotgun is best for shooting. These skeet shooting gun ratings are then referred to by shooters before purchasing new shotguns for this game purpose. The skeet shooting gun ratings are not official ratings they are just ratings put on shotguns by users and experts in some instances based on their own preferences.

Major skeet shooting technique difference is the gun butt placement near the torso in the international or the Olympic version is not there in the American version. This game was included as an Olympic sport in 1968. Both male and female skeet shooters could participate till 1992 after which the female skeet shooting was discontinued for a few years despite the fact that the 1992 Olympic champion was Shan Zhan a Chinese female skeet shooter. When Olympics are mentioned the Atlanta tragedy of Jason Caswell skeet shooting is worth recalling. Jason Caswell a contender for the gold medal finished fifty third because he just couldn’t see the clay discs. But that Jason Caswell skeet shooting tragedy was not because of the Olympics pressure it was just an unfortunate result of his color blindness. But Jason didn’t give up and came back to the Olympic Games but this time he had other stories to tell through the Jason Caswell skeet shooting.
