Dart Boards
The word darts is a reference to a variety of related board games in which darts are thrown on a circular board hung on the wall. Nowadays ‘darts’ is an individual sport with tools and set of rules and a specifically designed board a scoring system. Darts is a traditional pub game played in bars, pubs and taverns in England. Dart board games are now played as sports in sporting events such as commonwealth games and Olympics. England was the first country to recognize dart board games and played them as a sport.
To play darts, the second most important thing required after the darts, is its board. The dart board height is 5 feet eight inches from the floor, the eye view point to a six feet tall person. The dart board regulations state the fact that a board is to be divided in 20 numbered section to set the score for 1 – 20 points. Circular wires are running through out the circumference of the boards. Each circular wire within the outer wire subdivides the area into signal, double and triple areas.

Dart board regulations also govern the point scoring system in the game of darts. Hitting the white or black large sections of the board the points are scored as the value of the section of the board hit. If the dart hits the smaller, outer, red or green colored section of the board points double the value of the section of the board are awarded. The middle part of the board is called the ‘iris’ and this area of the board has the maximum value or score. These boards are also called dart scoreboards as they allow for scoring the person shooting the darts through the pints allocated to each circle or layer of the dart board. However, if the dart hits on the area outside the out most circle of the board no points will be added to the score.
A referee measures the hit on the board and awards points. But a special kind of board called the electronic dart board calculates the score by itself, through a computer when hit by a dart. These Electronic boards are used in all international sporting events. In the use of electronic dart board it is made sure that accurate points are awarded. It automatically registers these points on dart score boards.
There are some other specific kinds of dartboards out in the market that a consumer can buy after making sure that it fulfils their requirement. Such as widdy dart boards, halex dart board and funny dart boards. Widdy dart boards are manual, American classic version. They are authentic in markings etc and are constructed of tightly wound rolled paper. And halex dart board is modernized and computerized version of a dartboard.
