Bear Archery
Bear – start the adventure, is the slogan of the Bear archery and rightly so. Fred Bear the person behind Fred Bear archery was a very adventurous person. He always incorporated the adventure of his nature into the equipment that was manufactured at Bear archery. Fred Bear born in 1902 pursed the sport of archery in 1920’s and Art Young tutored him all he knew about bows and bow making. Fred Bear was interested in bow making and started on to making bows and other archery related equipment in his basement in year 1927. What started as a hobby then became the base for Bear Archery Company when in 1939 Fred Bear started commercial production. The Company soon started experimenting with fiber glass and other equipment for bow making.
The Fred archery of that time based its manufacturing operation in Grayling, Michigan in late 1940’s. Fred Bear was a bow hunter and he proudly displayed his trophies in the waiting room of his Michigan factory. The Bear archery company produced some state of the art archery equipment that changed the industry a great amount at that time. The bear archery products along with Fred Bear’s collection of artifacts and his bow hunting trophies wee displayed in the Grayling Fred Bear archery Museum in year 1967 and this was the first archery museum. Bear archery bows, Fred Bear’s trophies and his artifact collection were the main attractions of this museum. Soon the museum became the largest collection of privately held archery artifacts.

Fred Bear remained the president of the company even after he sold the controlling share of the company in 1968. In 1978 the Fred archery company relocated its manufacturing facility in Gainesville, Florida. The Fred Bear archery museum remained in Grayling, Michigan but in 1985 it was also moved to Gainesville, Florida.
In 1988 Fred Bear passed away. The archery museum in Florida remained open till 2003 after which the Bear archery company sold the museum’s collection to Bass Pro sports. The archery museum seized to exist after this but the Gainesville plant is still manufacturing Bear archery equipment that constitutes of youth and institutional archery equipment.
